Tortured!

Recall that I reported that several of the female hostages at Chabad House were found tied up. It will probably surprise none of my readers that there is strong evidence that the Israeli hostages who were murdered in Mumbai were tortured before their deaths (Hat Tip: Anand via Little Green Footballs).
Asked what was different about the victims of the incident, another doctor said: "It was very strange. I have seen so many dead bodies in my life, and was yet traumatised. A bomb blast victim's body might have been torn apart and could be a very disturbing sight. But the bodies of the victims in this attack bore such signs about the kind of violence of urban warfare that I am still unable to put my thoughts to words," he said.

Asked specifically if he was talking of torture marks, he said: "It was apparent that most of the dead were tortured. What shocked me were the telltale signs showing clearly how the hostages were executed in cold blood," one doctor said.

The other doctor, who had also conducted the post-mortem of the victims, said: "Of all the bodies, the Israeli victims bore the maximum torture marks. It was clear that they were killed on the 26th itself. It was obvious that they were tied up and tortured before they were killed. It was so bad that I do not want to go over the details even in my head again," he said.

Corroborating the doctors' claims about torture was the information that the Intelligence Bureau had about the terror plan. "During his interrogation, Ajmal Kamal said they were specifically asked to target the foreigners, especially the Israelis," an IB source said.

It is also said that the Israeli hostages were killed on the first day as keeping them hostage for too long would have focused too much international attention. "They also might have feared the chances of Israeli security agencies taking over the operations at the Nariman House," he reasoned.
In a column in the Spectator, Melanie Philips pointed out the extent to which the terrorists went out of their way to target Jews.
The atrocities demonstrated with crystal clarity what the Islamist war is all about – and the western commentariat didn’t understand because it simply refuses to acknowledge, even now, what that war actually is. It does not arise from particular grievances. It is not rooted in ‘despair’ over Palestine. It is not a reaction to the war in Iraq. It is a war waged in the name of Islam against America, Britain, Hindus, Jews and all who refuse to submit to Islamic conquest. The Mumbai atrocities told us very clearly a number of things.
  • The Islamists want to murder as many Americans, Brits, Hindus and Jews as possible. That is because they are waging all-out war against civilisation.
  • ...
  • They went to some lengths in addition to single out a centre for observant Jews. Rabbi Holtzberg and his wife Rivka were murdered not because of Palestine but simply because they were Jews. That is because hatred of Jews as Jews is fundamental to the Islamists’ hatred of the west – and of Israel.
With over a billion people living in India, the terrorists sought out the most visible of its 5,000 Jews. That's because there is no hatred in the world like Jew-hatred, and today's Islamists are as expert practitioners as their European forebears. Jew-hatred has nothing to do with the State of Israel or any rational grievance against the Jewish people. It is the oldest hatred in the books. And it's not going to go away even if the Jews were to leave Israel for other parts of the world.

It's time to face reality.

I will not whitewash the Chabadists: As a Christian, I have no great admiration for the Chabad -- so virulently anti-Christian are their beliefs. Nonetheless, I am compelled to sympathize with these victims: There is simply no call for this kind of berserk hatred. Can you imagine the kind of mind that will plot in this way to capture, torture, and kill a handful of Jews in a city of millions -- simply because they are Jews? Today we must say: We are either with the Muslims or with the Jews in this war. As a Christian -- as a Christian who admittedly is no fan of the Chabadists -- I must stand resolutely WITH the Jews and AGAINST the Muslims (who thrive on violence).

I remind every one of the story of Rabbi Akiva, who was savagely tortured by the Romans but who died with the love of G-d on his lips. The manner of his life has been an example to Jews on being true to the faith and it true again today. And then there's the astonishing parallel with the biblical story of Moshe, in which a Hebrew baby boy escapes the slaughter. Nothing in this world is truly random. They wouldn't have chosen the Jews if they were not G-d's people and the earth testifies to His presence everywhere. Yes, even in Mumbai!

It's sad there are so many evil people in the world. Christians have gone out of their way to help Muslim countries when they are in crisis. Soldiers of Christian countries have bled & died to free Muslims and to give them a better life, yet they hate us and want us dead. How can we allow this type of hatred to be taught to Muslim children in our country? Where does our government draw the line?

gunjam2, I have found no evidence proving or disproving Chabadist Jews are virulently anti-Christian. What information do you have which supports your assertion of anti-Christian beliefs. They do believe in their own Messiah, so does all of Judaism.

It would seem to me, as a fellow Christian, at a time like this, with the horrific torture and murders of Rabbi Gabriel Holtzberg and his wife Rivka, along with several others in the Chabad Outreach facility, that it's inappropriate to disparage them.

One need not insult the beliefs of murder victims while expressing grief at their barbarous demise. I'm glad you stand with them, but you should have done so without reservation.

It was very un-Christian of you to besmirch and mischaracterize these fine people.

@ gunjam2 - Chabad is not "virulently anti-Christian". They are unabashedly pro-Jewish. There is a difference. The only hint of disapproval I have ever witnessed from Chabad towards Christians is expressed at missionaries who target Jewish communities. Aside from that I have never seen *anything* other than respect and kindness towards Christians in all my experience of Chabad.

I have not known Lubavitchers to be virulently anti-Christian. Instead, I have seen them great compassion and solidarity in including the handicapped, including the mentally handicapped, in their social lives. I have known them to be good and safe neighbors. I could not want to live next to more harmless and respectable people.

This targeting, this torture and killing, is from jihad and Jew-hate. It is not due to any offense by the victims, because the victims are / were inoffensive.

gunjam2. jews are not against christians. Not only that, but they believe that anyone, including christians and muslams can go to heaven, as long as they follow the seven laws of Noah. (basicly, be a good person-you can google it). You-Christian do not think that Jews will go to heaven-so maybe you hate Jews?
Please think and check the facts before you smear the names of good dead people. (Rabbi Holtzberg and his wife).
Opinions like yours can cause terrorism and hatred in the world.

I am a blond haired, blue eyed Aryan looking, culturally Christian musician named Chris. I play for Orthodox Jewish Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs etc. all the time. I find the Chabadists to be open and accepting, very friendly people to others, like myself, who are different from them. I played one event where they were raising money for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Not Jewish victims; just victims. I have no idea why gunjam2 said they are virulently anti-Christian. This is the same ignorance that leads to the mindless hatred we saw in Mumbai. Ignorance and fear of the unknown. Let us not accept that ignorance even in its most passive forms. Once we accept it at all, it begins to grow like a Cancer. We can make this world a better place if we refuse to let this kind of thinking get a foothold. God bless Rabbi Holzberg and his Wife, and all the other victims of this terrible hatred.

EXTREMISM, in all its forms, is the ENEMY, not Islam. Comments like the one of gunjam2 is not just pathetic, it is dangerous. The idea of having to choose a camp between Christianity, Islam or Judaism is, in its essence, already extremism.

To gunjam2: Stop hiding behind your naive form of Christianity. Should i remind you of the horrors committed by the crusaders in the name of the Church?
We don't need your tainted sympathy, we need you to get educated. And walk inside a Chabad Center before making assumptions and judgment. There, you will learn the true meaning of compassion, the basis of your religion.

May all the victims rest in peace, B"H, regardless of their religious backgrounds for G-d' love is colorblind.

I am surprised to see that the word Aryan is wrongly used even in this age. Aryan people are from India, Pakistan, Iran, and East Europe. Especially those carrying R1a y-chromosome are supposed to be Aryans, you can google this fact. You will find this R1a gene even in Askenazi Jews as they originated in East Europe. Unfortunately Hitler and his likes hijacked the word Aryan and redefined it for blonde/blue-eyes.

I would guess that the Chabadis don't accept Christian doctrine, but that doesn't mean that they are "virulently anti-Christian".

If you want to see someone who is "virulently anti-Christian", look at the radical Muslims who tortured and killed the Chabadis. They are "virulently anti-" whatever and whoever they consider different from themselves, including other Muslims deemed not suficiently islamic.

The Qur'an is the last testament, if the Torah is the old testament and the Bible the new testament. How can you kuffars claim to love God, how can you worship Him, yet reject one or more of His messengers?? Islam is peace. Muslim means one who submits to the will of God. It is not God's will to kill innocent people. The murdered will stand on Judgment Day with the head of their murderer in their hands. God is just. As I was saying... a muslim is one who submits to the will of God, the God of Noah, of Moses, of Jesus son of Mary, and of the final messenger. If one goes to such extremes as to kill innocent, he is outside of Islam. Educate yourselves. Muslims are peaceful. I converted to Islam over a year ago. I travelled to two muslim countries - including Pakistan - and never witnessed violence. I did witness something beautiful though. Something we here in the west have lost. As-salaamu 'alaikum.
